The zoo opened to the public on June 10, 1936, and was considered the first U.S. Two months later on May 7, 1935, the Governor of New York signed an agreement to allocate public funds for the zoo to cover operational and maintenance costs while the exhibits, animal care and educational programs were to be maintained by the Staten Island Zoological Society With the land now owned by the city and a Zoological Society in place to run and administer the site, zoo construction commenced in 1933 as part of the Federal Government's works program to convert the 8-acre estate into a zoo. On March 25, 1935, the Egbert-Robillard Bill was passed by the New York State Senate to have the city provide maintenance for the zoo. In August 1933, the Staten Island Zoological Society was created and the park built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. In the first few years, the only mention of "Zoo" in the Zoo signs were in the word "Zoological" for the "Staten Island Zoological Society" which operated Barret Park. The site was (and still is) officially called "Barret Park" in city planning records and it wasn't until the 1960s when the "Staten Island Zoo" became the popular name for the site. Julia Harden died in 1930 and the property was transferred to the city of New York. Julia Harden willed the land to the city upon her death under three conditions: that it be named for her brother-in-law, Civil War Major Clarence Barrett, that the property not be used for a playground, and that her husband Colonel Harden be allowed to reside in the house that stood on the property. Colonel Harden fought in the Spanish–American War and moved to 614 Broadway on Staten Island in 1908 with his wife Julia Harden where they resided in what was later known as the "Harden Mansion". The Staten Island Zoo was built on the former estate grounds of Colonel Edward Harden. In the 1800s, Staten Island was home to many ranking military leaders including Colonel Harden and Colonel Penn Smith whose estates were located right across from each other on opposite sides of Clove Road. “Used blankets and towels help keep our dogs and cats comfy and warm, and we hope that New Yorkers will have some items to donate now that spring cleaning is right around the corner. The history of the Staten Island Zoo (Barrett Park) can be traced back to three Staten Island War heroes: Colonel Edward Harden, Colonel Richard Penn Smith, and Major Clarence Barrett. “When dogs and cats and other animals find themselves in an unfamiliar environment such as a shelter, anything that provides physical and emotional comfort is so important,” executive director of AC&C Julie Bank said in a statement. There’s just the procedural joke of the week. You could move any one of them to any other point in the series’ run, and it wouldn’t be confusing at all. The handful of episodes preceding the finale have their gimmicky sci-fi concept of the week, like the Purge episode, but they were little more than fun pieces of entertainment. Other than the one-two punch of “Auto Erotic Assimilation” followed by “Total Rickall” (one of the all-time greatest episodes), most of Rick and Morty Season 2 doesn’t feel particularly special. "The Wedding Squanchers" ends with Rick in jail and Earth occupied by the Galactic government. By the time it finally arrives, the full wait for Season 4 will have been even longer and arguably even more arduous, but in many ways, “The Wedding Squanchers” felt like a more significant tipping point for the series. Not only did these events have consequences that lasted throughout Season 3, but this emotional cliffhanger lingered for almost two full years before the Season 3 premiere surprise-aired on April 1, 2017. The devastating ending, which saw the Earth occupied by the Galactic Federation and Rick incarcerated without the chance of escape or parole, totally upended the procedural structure of the show. With a few crucial exceptions, there aren’t that many serialized plots to follow - but that changed forever with the Season 2 finale, “The Wedding Squanchers,” which aired on October 4, 2015. Rick introduces or encounters a conflict, characters go outside their comfort zone to overcome an obstacle, and everything returns to normalcy at the end of the episode. Most Rick and Morty episodes follow a procedural, cyclical storytelling structure that has little to no lasting impact for the overall series. ![]() ![]() ![]() It bothers me that I want to change the "your" in its name to "you're" because as it currently reads I am left to ponder what a 'KG' is, why one might be stored beneath a 'chunk' and what a 'chunk' actually is (beautiful or otherwise). I covered the labels with clear tape to protect them from condensation and moisture when they're in the bathroom, but I took the photographs before I added the tape because I knew it would be difficult to photograph if they were glossy. My blending and shading sort of went out the window but they'll be no prizes for colouring on this project! I will admit that the labels were awful to colour but the images were so small I decided it didn't really matter.

![]() ![]() Google Sheets is web-based, so I used it in my Edge and Chrome browsers Google also offers Sheets apps for Android and iOS, so I tested those as well. In this lesson, youll learn about the different ways you might use spreadsheets and how to navigate the Google Sheets interface. Because it’s a multiplatform world, I also tested Excel’s macOS desktop client, its web version, and its Android and iOS mobile apps. Easily analyze Google Forms data in Sheets, or embed Sheets charts in. Individuals and businesses who use the perpetual version of Excel may not have all the features covered here. Sheets is thoughtfully connected to other Google apps you love, saving you time. This review focuses on the Excel desktop application for Windows in Microsoft 365/Office 365. ![]() Individuals can use the online version of Excel for free, but its functionality isn’t as robust as the desktop client’s. Excel is available as part of Microsoft Office, which has a variety of different iterations for personal or business use and is available as either an annual Microsoft 365 or Office 365 subscription or as a one-time purchase (what Microsoft calls the “perpetual” version of Office). Although Google Sheets is part of Google’s licensed G Suite package for businesses, it remains free for individual use. This is easily done from WinCalendar without having to export from Google calendar or CSV. I built one that tracked eight months of income and expenses for an imaginary company, including both results and projections.īefore I forget - there is one glaring difference between Sheets and Excel that should be mentioned: price. Import Google Calendar to native Word & Excel format in a variety of customizable layouts. To test all that, I decided to create a typical spreadsheet that many business professionals might need to assemble: a budget tracker. To find out where Sheets and Excel stand today, both individually and compared to each other, I tested them by trying out the most common tasks users perform, including starting a new spreadsheet, inputting data and formulas, formatting cells, creating charts, adding extras such as data from external sources, and collaborating with others. If you (or your business) chose one spreadsheet app and rejected the other years ago, there may be good reasons to reconsider. Both are polished and very useful - so much so that it’s easy to cling to the application you’re currently using without learning how the other has improved over the years. To get to the same screen during a match, enter the pause menu and choose Select Sides, then press Square Button/X Button. ![]() From the main menu, go to Extras > Options > Personal Data Settings, then select Data 1 to reach the Edit Personal Data page. These well-hidden menus should be your first port of call before you set foot on the pitch, as there are a handful of fairly significant settings that FIFA players should change in advance. Get these right and you can focus on what’s happening on the pitch, rather than the mistakes and misunderstandings that instinct and flailing sausage fingers conditioned by years of FIFA might lead to.īizarrely, the critical Edit Personal Data and Command Configuration screens are not easy for new players (the very people who might need them most) to locate. Let’s start with the basics: buttons and menus. It’s more of a primer than a comprehensive guide, but it should be enough to get you up and running – or to whet your appetite even further if you’ve yet to commit.Īfter all, what do you have to lose? If you buy a disc copy and PES doesn’t work out, you can trade it in towards FIFA in less than two weeks. For that reason, we’ve put together this feature to help anyone who takes the plunge to configure the game and start enjoying PES 2017 in double-quick time. With FIFA 17 a fortnight away, and with PES 2017 beguiling many players (seen our review of the brilliant PES 2017 yet?) with the sheer variety and substance of the stories that unfold in its match engine, we imagine that more than a few FIFA diehards are casting a few lingering glances in the direction of Konami’s latest. It’s a little too early to be making definitive statements on its relative position in subjective all-time lists, but its robust and authentic simulation of real-life player behaviours and team tactics makes it a genuine contender. Stick with it, though, and PES 2017 is one of the most remarkable football games in many years. It’s perhaps a little scruffy to behold at times (especially the Xbox One version), is often less than user-friendly, and probably won’t make a brilliant first impression if you’re attuned to FIFA’s customary polish. ![]() |
